Well, I lost one of the tailpipes off my exhaust, at the glasspack.
If you can't remember/don't know or whatever, my exhaust consits of a dual-inlet/outlet cat keeping it 2 pipes all the way through. The glasspacks were installed like 2 inches or so from the cat.

Anyway.. when having to remove the gas tank skid plate to replace the intank pump, I somehow managed to mangle the one pipe, and the weld broke at the glasspack. A couple days later it finished falling off.

My question is.. will this create any sort of problem if I drive it like this for a while? It's been about 500 miles or so like this.. could this cause a slow degredation of power from the engine and not cause any codes?
Also, when checking the slow idle speed, should it be checked with the spout connector plugged in, or unplugged? And what could cause the engine to not lower to the warm idle? Even after driving 10 miles, it still seems like it's idling at the cold idle..

I don't know why your exhaust would be causing your truck to idle wierdly... My entire exhaust consists of the exhaust manifolds, down pipes, both Cats, 8" of straight pipe to a 45º bend to an 18" piece that sticks out just ahead of the rear tire at a 45º angle... all done in 2" exhaust (I didn't want to loose too much of the bottom end). Needless to say it has a VERY nice rumble that accends to a roar around redline, and because I have the cats it is 100% emissions legal (and they're even strict about noise and I've never been bothered).

 cheers

I doubt think it's the exhuat causing the weird idle.. I just need to whip out the portable tach and check the idle.. cuz it sounds high, but for all I know it could be correct... when I first got the truck, the brake booster was shot and hissed like hell.. because of that vacuum leak, the idle may have been too low then, and I had it like that for almost 2 years. So I just may need to re-check everything.

Leave everything hooked up to check the idle.
It should be 700-800 rpm.

Your not supposed to have to set the idle but if you do you need a voltmeter connected to the TPS. Best way because the ECM looks to the voltage out of the TPS for a baseline idle value.

I know it shouldn't need to be changed, but after getting my truck running again a while back, it seemed like it was idling way too low.
Well, then, I hooked up my portable tach, and it was idling at around 500 RPM instead of the stated 800 RPM. Only thing is, idle was adjusted to 800 RPM with the SPOUT connector disconnected, but then re-adjusted after SPOUT connector was reconnected.
I just gotta bring out the port tach again and double check the idle.

What all would cause it to not slow down the idle after warm up? ECT sensor and what all else?
