I GOT A 94 RANGER 4.0 213,000 MILES I WAS DRIVING 7 HRS STRAIT AND WAS PULLIN PEOPLE OUT AND THAT AFTER THAT IT WOULD IDLE AT 2800RPM WHEN IN NUATRAL AND WOULDNT GO DOWN UNLESS I TURNED IT OFF WAT COULD IT BE?

Does it have high idle when in gear also? Throttle position sensor maybe? Have you pulled codes?

idle when im goin down the road and shift its a 5spd in between shifts it revs up then when i put it in gear it goes down to normal rpm

I've had 2 well used 4.0L's that did that on long highway trips. cool it off and its back to normal :D

i put another air intake valve or watever on top of the intake , it idles fine sometimes but other times it is like at 2200 on start up i have no clue?
