View Full Version : 4.0L distributor, or stand alone DIS?

If I run my 4.0L (92 sploder setup) with a simple turbo-propane setup, I'm gonna need some sparks, time to time. Is there a simple way?
2.8 or 2.9 distributor and DS-II?
unplug the injectors and see if the EEC-IV will accept its reduced role of DIS only? All sensors could remain except the MAF. Well, I guess that could remain too, but I don't want it. Would it curl up and die?
Is there an aftermarket DIS controller?
Before I get the long string of "why?"s,
-near $4/gal is getting old, and still rising; propane is typically 1/2 that.
-LPG takes to turbos like Americans to apple pies.
-I like turbos:DR:
-My B2 is underpowered, and I have an OHV 4.0L sitting here... it was slated for a SOHC, but I should be able to get far more power for less $ this way, with about 4 miles less wiring.
a distributror and DS-II would be my favorite cure, with the least wires, but I'm open to ideas for any kind of solution.

Yes, DIS is great, but I'd like to eliminate about 4 miles of wiring, since the EEC-IV (a great system, IMO,I've swapped and modified many of them from 4,6,and 8 cyl) will have no control at all over an important 1/2 of its domain. Like I said, an independant DIS control, or retro-distributor is my goal. adding MORE stuff and paying big for it to boot doesn't seem like a great idea to me. Whats a tweecer worth these days? haven't looked at that stuff for years... Last time I was interested in it, it was pending release LOL! I suppose with that you could just shut off the fuel, and pretend all was normal, huh? wonder what it would think/do if when it encounters a rich/lean condition :eek2: [smoke comes from kick pannel] LOL!

emmm. nope. theres propane/fuel injection setups out there, made in canada eh. but it costs too.
you can build a mega jolt controller for 100 bux or so to keep the dis and run the propane with a reg setup too.
that is what i would do.
