Alright, got an 86 cherokee with 2.5L and auto in the deal with the new trail rig.

Thing was really hard to start, and ocne started wouldnt idle until warmed up, and then it was a really rough idle. Also popped back through the TBI.

I replaced the plugs, and it lost popping through the tbi. It's still a little hard to start but did get easier. And it idles even when cold now, but its still really rough. When I step on the gas it cuts out badly and then kicks in and runs smooth when its in park. If in drive, at an idle it dies, if I rev it to around 2500 and powerslam it, and then feather the gas once the engine bounces back to 2500rpm it runs smoothy.

there is no airbreather box at all, and I know my MAZDA wotn run without it hooked up properly. Could this be the issue here as well? There are no vaccum leaks aside from the missing lines that should run the the breather, even if I plug those it doesnt change a thing. There is also a two prong plug that is sticking out of the wiring near where the breather box should be, does this go to soemthing that controls air mixture or something of the sorts?

I dotn have the the computer to test it, and cant get it to the Zone to have it tested, any ideas?

what's the fuel pressure?

Not sure but it seems to me its running really rich. So I'd say its not a pressure problem.

I found a huge vaccum leak which I repaired and it runs alot better now, but it still isnt right.

the timing as idle runs at 24 degreee's above tdc. And since timing is electronicaly controled I wonder if the cps isnt mesing up?

pressure problems come in two forms, too low and too high. until you have a number - it's only guessing.

check to see if it has a T-stat. Mine wouldn't run for shit when it was cold and running without a t-stat. These 2.5's are ment to run hot. It would actually stall out when I came to a stop and never would idle right.

Well, guy did repalce the water pump so that would be a good thing to check.

LOL sounds familiar. Check the rotation! Serpintine belts = forward direction pump..... V belts = reverse direction pump. The reverse direction pump will have a REV stamped on the front of the case under the pully or inside on the impeller. Mine ran bad (didn't realize how bad until I fixed it) when I had the wrong pump and no T-stat.
