Since the 44-05 is a full time case.....
It goes to the magnetic clutch to tel it when to lock and when to slip.
Btw.....need some spare parts for one? I bought a burned one .......well, the oil burned, but the case and "guts" were fine.......used a few parts, and don't need the rest.
Lemme know

Does this help Les? Looks like that brown wire down in the center of the diagram goes from the Electric Shift Relay to the Clutch in the Transfer Case. You may have to increase the pic size to see clearly. Oh and this diagram is for a 95 Ranger with a 1354E.

Rob you say this is out of a 95 ranger and it is the 1354E?Reason I ask is it has that GEM like my Explorer.Naked Ducks you must get your info from other boards cause that wire is on all E shifted 1350's 1354's and the 4405's.That is one of the things everybody is getting wrong. The only thing that makes it full time is the clutch but it is a manual type action. When the sensers in the back of the case sense rear wheel slipage they activate the CAD up front, and only in 4x4 auto. The CAD enguages in 4x4low as soon as you flip the switch.I want to be able to use the 1354E in the Explorer and not have to rewire the whole thing.Every thing is the same as far as the shift motor goes but there are 2 sensers in the 4405 and only one in the 1354.The sensers in the 4405 are 3 wire and the 1354 is 2 wire I think. Now back to the brown wire,I belive it holds the cases in 4x4low once the shift motor puts it there.Anyone have a 95 ranger they can check the sensers on to see if there is one or two of them and are they 2wire or 3.I'm telling you right now I will take these things apart and put them back together just to get the story on them straight.Electronic clutch HA HA HA :thwack:

The brown wire? I have been wrong before.....and this wasn't the 1st, nor will it be the last. :squanto:
Anyway......
Mostly I try and deal w/ the manual shift t-cases only. They seem to be less problems, and easier to troubleshoot.
Need these extra parts? Otherwise, I am just gonna scrap them for scrap metal...

Don't know just yet - My 1997 4405 is stuck in full time 4hi and I had to disconnect the front driveshaft to drive it....
I suspect the clutch in it is shot...I'm dropping it this weekend and I will hopefully know more.
