There's no way I would have trailered my junk on those narrow roads with them calling for almost 12" in the mountains that weekend. :eek2:

It was fun even though there were only three of us up there. As it turned out it was only me, Evan(2002FX4Ranger), and Brian(Suzuki guy). I ended up being the only Ranger there as Evan and Brian both had their Samuries. It snowed Thurs. night and a good portion of Fri. The ice and snow weren't terrible, but they definitely made things more tricky. I guess that between 4-6" of snow fell while we were up there. Evan snapped a timing belt on the way in on trail 1 so I towed him back to the parking lot and we trailered his Samuri. Evan rode with Brian and I followed in my truck. I can't remember exactly all of the trails we hit but we were out til around 6:30. My L/S rear axle, and open front end with 3.73's didn't help any in addition to the fact that my front tires were on the bald side. My brakes decided to go out about halfway through the trials which complicated things a bit more. Thankfully, I only needed a snatch a couple of times. Brian's Samuri did very well, but he had new tires, was geared, and was locked. Saturday we spent most of the morning and afternoon trying to get Evan's rig back among the living. Finally around 5:30pm we headed out to hit a couple of trials, but the roads were so slick with ice we couldn't get the trailer up the hill to the parking lot so we parked at Tellico cabins and drove up in the two Samuries. I didn't bring my Ranger cause I would have been slippin' and sliddin' all over the place and I didn't want to hinder progress. We had a little fun trying trail two which was deemed "unpassable" in some sections. After that we decided to head back home. It was around 10pm at this point and we were freezing our rears off. It was a lot of fun and the carnage was nothing major. Evan snapped his timing belt, but found out later that his cam was split also. We got it running again, but the engine will need to be rebuilt or swapped out for something else. I put a couple dents and scratches in the Ranger and broke about 3" off the top of my passenger side coil but nothing I couldn't fix. There were a few times I thought maybe I'd tip over on my side but thankfully that didn't happen. I also learned that brakes + ice = bad. I was going too fast on the way out and hit my brakes going around a corner, but just keep going straight for the edge of the cliff. Thankfully we stopped with about 2' to spare. Hair raising none the less. At any rate I had a good time and I definitely want to go back, next time locked, geared, and with new tires. The one thing that sucked though was that ONLY THREE PEOPLE SHOWED UP!!! I understand a lot of folks were busy with previous engagements, but it would have been nice to get more people out there. If we could plan a summer trip that'd be cool. Later.

Man, I'd love to hang out with you guys, but I'm going to be out in Cali until Jan. 4th. Gonna be hangin' out with my old buddies out there. Should be a blast as usual. Sorry I won't be able to chill with you fellas. Keep me posted. I might be able to swing up there at some point. Later.

One of the most dangerous trails at Telico is Trail #1. More people have driven off or slide off this road/trail than any other place. Add alittle speed and add the ice and people get surprised. My local club rides Telico every January "Winter Madness" . Last year we had three vehicles slide to the edge.

If you guys went up lower 2 that's one of the big challenges in the dry more less in the SNOW!

Derek, you left out the part where I slid down the Hanging Dog Rd into a snow bank and jackknifed the trailer across the road and we had to winch the trailer straight.

Friday we ran up 4, up 11 about 1/2 a mile, back down 4 to 3, then back 3 to 4, 4 across F/F (almost 1 hour to get Dereks bald tired brakeless ranger over), and then down 6.

Saturday night we ran the first mile of upper 2 until we could not go anymore. It was pitch black out and everything had 1/2" of ice on top of it.

Turns out the the cam is fine. Guy was just giving me a line to charge more $$$. Motor is running like a top. But, still needs a new spring on the timing belt tensioner.

What happened to CODA???

Rob, that was Dirt Dobber with us. I trailered his and my Sami's up there.

LoneRanger

Man, I did'nt know Dirt Dobber was the "other" zook with you!

that's cool- Coda wheeled up at Rich Mtn with his brother, and due to the snow ice being so bad in Tellico (that was why I suggested it in the first place-) for him, me, and Deryck to go up there together and wheel the bugs out of both trucks. camp on the creek in the snow, etc..... have a good time.

but, i am glad the 3 of ya had a good time~ and no one got hurt in the snow & ice!

Pretty sure I said I would be there IF I didn't have to work, which I did. But the fact of the matter, like I've said before is I'm a web wheeler, My Ranger is for show only, looks great sittin in the yard, so why wheel it and chance getting scratches. Yes, I wheeled Sunday at Rich, was a waste of time cause my bro's Grand Carryme didn't get anywhere. Don't worry man, when you get to wheel with me you'll see my waxed truck avoiding every branch and limb out there, let alone getting mud on it. What happened to all those other trucks that were showing up? Also, when I know good and well from other wheeling friends that it's icy and snowy up there I don't waste my time and money trailering a rig and chancing jackknifing it and other problems when I'm not gonna really get to do any trail anyway. Also, A mile up upper 2?? You must mean the dirt road leading up to the actual trail, cause in ICE you'll never get up upper 2, it's a nightmare if it's raining. Coda

No you idiot, people that realy know what they are doing and have seen the dangers of wheeling in Ice know you CANNOT safely wheel in it.

It is called Common Sense.

Coda, you are absolutely right. I will never go up there with ice again. It made things a little hairy at times.

But, we made it as far as we could on upper 2. Which was about 1 mile. Remember, an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. Well, our unbalanced force was ice and gravity. But, we got to a rock wall and went no more.

You got to the TRAIL and turned around. Built up anger, no, don't think so. Just sick of a fawkin newbie tryin to talk like he's the fawkin shit. I've been to Tellico, I know what it's like, and in the ice it's a waste of fawkin time. Only a fawkin newbie jackass thinks he's a tough guy or better wheeler, more hardcore, however the fawk you want to put it for going there in the ice. Unfortunately for ZainyD, his first opportunity was in the ice, so he didn't get a very good taste for tellico, and this was compounded by the fact that unfortunately he couldn't afford new tires for his rig, which you so nicely ripped him for in your post, like we have any respect for shit like that. We've all been there, but the difference between the guys that have shown up to runs set up by Offrhoder, Bryce, Tony and myself is we don't put people down for insignificant problems like that. You've got a long ass way to go to gain any respect around this region if you think you're gonna come in here and talk smack like you do to all the 15-20 yr olds over at ORR. Most of them would shit themselves if they wheeled with us, as I suspect you would. So, next time you try to bitchslap me on here I suggest you get a little more substance behind your story or SHUT THE **** UP!! :fo: Coda

What the hell is your problem?

Do you just feel the urge to run your pie hole every time someone posts something?

In no way shape or form was any of that called for. I am sitting here agreeing with half the stuff you are saying and you sit there and bad mouth me? A --- You have NEVER met me so you have no grounds to start criticizing. You know absolutely nothing about me, and 90% of the words out of your mouth regarding me are bogus. Until you have met me in person and know and understand what I am about, keep the shrewd remarks to yourself.

B --- This is the internet, lighten up.
C --- Dont start the age old desputes between ORR and RRORC.
D --- No where was anyone trying to "bitchslap" you.
E --- Finally, no where in my post did I rip Deryk a new one. He is a great guy and I thouroughly enjoyed wheeling with him. As limited as it might have been. Yes, there were a few things that set him back. Guess what, there were a few things that set me back too. But, we both made the effort and managed to run and that was that. A positive attitude will get you a lot farther in life Mr. Offroad.

however, I have seen some SHIAT that was posted here that would NEVER FLY on one of our "normal" s.e. trail rides.

you can have this, you cant wheel if you dont have that, etc......... NO WAY- it just aint the S.E. way. our only 2 rules were no drinkin on the trail, and dont be too much of an idiot.
